We're simply trying to calculate some sort of website's "popularity" based on which websites link to it (and if these websites are any good). Here at Ahrefs we don't try to "predict rankings" with our DR (Domain Rating). I also try to use DR and DA with ranking metrics when possible for judging power of a potential link.įIRST: The "definitions" that /u/karmaceutical shared here are correct. I always look at link profile metric AND rank success these days when building links. In that case, I might choose to go for the link from A. If looking for link acquisition, I'd also keep in mind that site A might rank much better than site B even though site A has a significantly worse link profile. DR and DA I'd use to evaluate power of prospective link. competitor's? To me, the best measure for a site's "ability to rank" is more about estimated traffic and competitiveness of the words a competitor is able to rank for. for seeing the ranking potential/power of their website vs. Correct me if I'm wrong about their implementation of Clickstream data: they've said they'll be using it but I've not see it in the numbers.Ī bit of a naive question, but how many people use DR or DA to find the value of getting a link from a particular website vs. So, personally I do not use SEMrush Rank anymore. SEMrush used to have the best measure of how well a site ranks via SEMrush rank, however it's not clear how they get their KW volume data now whereas Moz and ahrefs switched to incredibly powerful/accurate clickstream data. That db is not adequate for finding meaningful correlations with ranking. This is one reason their controversial recent study, which they still promote on their homepage, is odd. Their link data is too small now to use their link metrics stand-alone. I was the first to do data studies as an employee of SEMrush (3ish years ago).
